Vaccination for patients with CKD

Vaccination for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD)

It is said that prevention is better than cure. We all know about the vaccination programs during childhood. Almost everyone in India has received vaccination during their childhood under the Universal immunization program of Govt. Of India.

Immunization of adults is a recent concept. This is practiced in the high-risk populations. Under this high-risk population, patients with chronic kidney disease are higher in the list.

Indian Society of Nephrology has recommended vaccination to all patients with CKD.

The purpose is to prevent infections in these patients totally or at least partially. Even if infections occur in these patients, they may be less severe and hospital stay may be less.

With the use of vaccinations, we can reduce the mortality amongst these patients.

Vaccination in the earlier stages of CKD will be more effective compared to the later stages in terms of the production of antibodies.

Schedule of vaccination is as below ( Recommended by Indian Journal of Nephrology)
